Very Clarifying

The Holy Father's new encyclical has had an effect that even he probably didn't foresee.

It has "outed" the cafeteria Catholicism of the neo-cons. You know, they who always protested too much about their fidelity to the Magisterium.

However, some neocons are being more than a little two-faced in their criticisms of Weigel, et al., since they themselves are examples of cafeteria Catholicism when it comes to the Holy Mass and Church tradition. Some of them even dismiss the centrality of the Mass, preferring to let "Catholics" who so desire concentrate on "community" and "sharing."

By the way, for a hilarious take on Weigel's column, go here.
